5 Simple Tips for Boosting Your Energy

I hear so many people, on a daily basis say, “I’m so tired,” or “I need a another coffee just to keep going,” or “I’m so exhausted no matter how much sleep I get.” Have you ever felt that way?  I know I have.

In fact, almost 3 years go, I was at my wits end. I was so frustrated with this seemingly endless cycle of exhaustion. I was depressed, anxious, and annoyed – not exactly a recipe for vitality and peace of mind. I have spent the past couple years intensely focused on learning and implementing strategies for bringing oneself into energetic and emotional balance. In the process of becoming certified as a spiritual life coach, Reiki practitioner,  and energy healer, there have been some consistent strategies that have worked in my journey of healing and that I recommend to clients that wish to bring themselves back into balance.

5 Simple Tips for Boosting Your Energy

1. Take Slow, Deep Breaths

When we are feeling stressed, our breath becomes more constricted. Instead of nice, slow, deep breaths into our belly, we begin to take short breaths from our chest. This does not allow for full circulation of oxygen throughout the body, which can lead to energy blockages that build up over time. Many people experience this as tension in the neck and shoulder area, for example. The more you practice breathing deeply (allowing the belly to expand like a balloon on the inhale, and deflate on the exhale), the circulation of energy throughout your body will be more seamless and the energy will not become blocked or stagnant. Practices like meditation, conscious breath work, yoga, Tai Chi, or Qi Gong can be beneficial to supporting conscious breathing and energy flow.

2. Cleanse the Body of  Energy Draining Foods

When I was at my lowest point, I felt like I had to have coffee (or some other form of caffeine) to keep going throughout the day. When I began the journey of healing from depression and anxiety, I went on a personal retreat at a location that had no meat, coffee, or sugar. I went “cold turkey” without the things I had been consuming daily, and noticed a tremendous difference in the balance of my energy level throughout the day. It was a more natural energy verses the quick hit that always led to the ‘post-high’ energy slump. The difference was so profound that I continued to leave meat and coffee out of my diet for years. As we hear over and over, consuming more fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains provide more sustainable energy throughout the day. I also replaced all of the sugary drinks I was taking in with water, water, and more water. Every few months, I either fast or cleanse via juicing or eating 100% raw to purify the body of any toxins that have built up. I can’t stress enough how profound these dietary changes have been for how I feel on a daily basis!

3. Release Negative Thoughts

Clearing thought patterns that do not contribute to your peace of mind is such an important part of bringing ourselves back into balance. Prior to my struggle with depression, I didn’t realize how crucial this was. I realized that the negative thoughts I had been holding onto for years (“I’m not good enough”, “I can’t stand ____”, “I should be a better ____”, “I don’t have enough”, etc.) had become like a heavy wet blanket. As I began to release the most repetitive negative thoughts, one by one, I began to feel lighter. The difference was palpable. I discuss how to do this in detail in my 5 Steps to Releasing Negativity and A Simple Tip for Releasing Negative Thoughts posts. In short, negative thoughts zap our energy and the energy of those around us. It does not send out “good vibes” so to speak, and ends up clogging our energy field with the emotions we do not wish to experience.

4. Clear Your Space

All things are made up of energy, and that includes the items we hold in our spaces. Over time, our material possessions take on the energy of those who have entered the space, the events that have taken place in the space, and those who we have interacted with. Many of us have had the experience of walking into a space and feeling the heavy energy that resides in the space. Or, walking into someone’s presence and just getting a “bad vibe.” What we are feeling, in those moments, is the energy of the room (or the person). The ancient practice of space clearing with sage is powerful in releasing all that does not belong – all that is not contributing to your peace, joy, balance, etc.. Any energies or entities that are not for your Highest Good will be cleared as you set the intention for only Love and Light to reside in the space. As you walk through each room with the sage (more on how to do this here), call on Spirit, your Angels (and/or whatever Guides you feel most comfortable with) to support you in the clearing process and set the intentions for what you wish to experience in each room. You can find sage at most natural food stores. In addition to clearing with sage, I highly recommend clearing your space of unwanted items and clutter on a regular basis. When our space is in order, and we surround ourselves only with the items that bring us joy, it increases the positive energy in the room.

5. Regular Energy Healing

Not only is it essential that we clear our spaces of negative energy, but it is equally as important to clear our energy fields of all that is not serving us. In addition to daily meditation, regular energy healing treatments that promote the clearing of the energy field surrounding the body (most commonly known as the aura), the energy system running along the spine (most commonly known as the chakra system), and the energetic “highways” that connect our organs (most commonly known as meridians) are a powerful way to release stagnant energy and bring ourselves back into balance. Just as we would go get a massage to get the “knots” out of the tissues in our body, energy healing unties the energetic “knots” that have accumulated from our emotions, thoughts, surroundings, interactions, etc. To learn more about the types and benefits of energy healing, visit: http://www.livinginthelight.com/energy-healing.

About the Author:

I used to live life shackled by fear, doubt, and worry. I put on a happy face while navigating my day-to-day duties, but I was emotionally drained, stressed, and unhappy. When I hit rock bottom, and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I was determined to live life differently. I knew there had to be another way. Out of that determination, and guidance from Spirit, the "Living in the Light" blog was born. It documents my spiritual journey out of the darkness and into the Light. After nine months of publicly sharing my journey, and consciously releasing my attachment to the ego, I experienced a powerful spiritual awakening. I went from living in fear, doubt, worry, and stress to complete inner peace. My greatest passion has become assisting others on their own journey to inner peace. My spiritual memoir, From Stress to Peace: An Intimate Journal on the Journey from Living in Darkness to Living in the Light, is available now on Amazon and BN.com. Click the tabs at the top of the page to learn more about the From Stress to Peace 21-Day Challenge, Living in the Light Retreats, 1:1 sessions, and the Living in the Light Community - all of which are designed to support your journey to inner peace. I appreciate you taking the time to visit the blog and look forward to supporting you in any way I can!
