In the interim, see below for an overview of the last retreat which was held at the beautiful Laguna Lodge Eco-Resort & Nature Reserve which sits on Lake Atitlán in Santa Cruz La Laguna, Guatemala.

What will the retreat include?

The 5 day/4 night From Stress to Peace retreat includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Introduction to simple techniques for relaxing your mind anytime, anywhere
  • Introduction to, and practice of, meditation and breath exercises that can easily be incorporated into your daily schedule
  • Introduction to daily practices to release negative thoughts and stuck energy throughout the body
  • Morning, afternoon, and evening workshops to support releasing stress, cultivating and sustaining a daily wellness practice, finding peace within, and more!
  • 3 delicious organic, vegetarian meals daily (vegan and gluten free options available)
  • Yoga classes led by a certified instructor
  • 1/2 day Shaman tour and Mayan sacred fire ceremony in San Juan, Guatemala
  • 1/2 day trip to Chichicastenango (“ChiChi”) Market
  • Walking meditation through the beautiful nature reserve the resort is housed on
  • 4 nights double or single lake view accommodations (all rooms have a direct lake view)
  • Ground transportation from GUA airport (Group shuttles at 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 pm on arrival date, group shuttle at 10:00 am on departure date)

*We will have the honor of participating in an authentic Mayan ceremony, Shaman tour, and cultural immersion experience. See below for a brief description of the ceremony, which will support all participants on the journey of releasing all that no longer serves and stepping into the new!

The Shaman tour in San Juan will be in the “Tzutujil” language, and translated to English by our guide. The Mayan sacred fire ceremony performed by the local ‘Tata’, and an experienced translator, will be celebrating this Mayan protection ceremony for all the participants. A ritual for supporting a healthy and positive life. The ceremony will be celebrated according to the day and the purpose that is desired. Before going to visit the shaman for the sacred fire the Mayan Signs will be explained by your guide. If you have an offering, such as chocolate or sugar, the shaman will appreciate it.

What additional expenses will I need to budget for?

The retreat price includes all of the items listed above (single or double accommodations for four nights, all meals, yoga classes, shaman ceremony, day tour/market visit, ground transportation, and the From Stress to Peace workshops).  In addition to the retreat price, you will need to budget for airfare (to Guatemala City, Guatemala – Flights from the US have been ranging between $350 – $550, depending on your city of departure to GUA), incidentals, and any spa treatments you may be interested in.

Is it possible to share a room?

Yes, double rooms are available. Note: The practice of silence will be encouraged throughout a portion of the retreat, and journaling (and other contemplative activities) will be assigned during some break times to ensure you get the most out of your time away.  If you are looking for a girlfriends getaway to primarily catch up with friends, then this may not be the retreat for you.  We will be utilizing the time we have to relax, reflect, and release old patterns and ways of being so that we can be our best selves in all that we do.  Based on past participant feedback, I trust you will truly appreciate the quiet time for restoration and healing!

Will this be a 100% silent retreat?

We will practice silence for ~1 day of the retreat (Friday), but the remainder of the retreat will allow for group interaction and discussion.  The practice of silence will include meal times and breaks.  This will be a powerful time to turn within to identify and release all that is not serving your peace-of-mind (guidance will be provided in powerful techniques to identify and release inner blocks to peace).

How should I dress for the retreat?

The temperature in Santa Clara La Laguna, Guatemala averages 78 degrees during the day in May (62 degrees at night).  You will want to bring comfortable clothing that you can relax in throughout the day (Think shorts, light sweats, swimwear, yoga clothes, lounge-wear, etc.).  You will also want to be sure to have some comfortable sneakers in addition to sandals and/or water shoes for the lake area. Keep in mind, we do have two excursions – one for the traditional Mayan sacred fire ceremony and Shaman tour and another to “ChiChi” market. Be sure to check the weather as the date gets closer for a more accurate estimate.

Is there anything else I should bring with me?

The following items are recommended for the From Stress to Peace Retreat:  a flashlight, a journal for reflection, a watch (as we will be turning off our electronic devices), a blanket (for comfort on the meeting room floor), a refillable water bottle, and a purple pen (the significance of this will be explained in the welcome session). We will be meeting on a yoga deck with a beautiful view of the lake. Feel free to bring a seat cushion or pillow to make yourself comfortable on the floor. Yoga mats will be provided by the resort.

Where is the center located?  What type of ground transportation is available?

The Laguna Lodge and Eco-Resort is located approximately 2.5 hours from the Guatemala City airport. There will be a scenic 2 hour drive from GUA to Panajachel and then a boat transfer to Laguna Lodge and Eco-Resort. Ground transportation will be provided at no additional cost at specific pick up and drop off times from Guatemala City airport (11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on 5/25 and 10am on 5/29). Contact Kandace at fromstresstopeace@kandacejones.com if you will be arriving outside of the group shuttle window for support in coordinating with others to reduce shuttle fees.

All retreat participants are asked to arrive into GUA airport no later than 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25.  This will ensure as much as the group as possible can take advantage of the prepaid shuttles which will depart at 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. I recommend considering staying overnight in nearby quaint city, Antigua, (which is about 30 minutes from the airport) on 5/24 if you cannot find a flight to arrive before 3pm on 5/25. I’m happy to put you in touch with others considering this option so you can share hotel and ground transfer costs. A visit to Antigua would be a nice addition to the front end of the trip. Is my deposit refundable?

The security deposit is non-refundable ($550). Additional funds paid toward the retreat may be refunded if cancelled within 60 days of the retreat (March 25, 2017).  I recommend purchasing travel insurance to ensure you receive some portion of the funds back in the event of a last-minute emergency.  (Click here or here for two travel insurance websites which allow you to compare rates between multiple providers) In the event that the retreat is cancelled or postponed by the facilitator for any reason, all retreat payments made to Living in the Light will be reimbursed.

About the Facilitator: Kandace Jones

I used to live life shackled by fear, doubt, and worry. I put on a happy face while navigating my day-to-day duties, but I was emotionally drained, stressed, and unhappy. When I hit rock bottom, and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I was determined to live life differently. I knew there had to be another way. Out of that determination, and guidance from Spirit, the “Living in the Light” blog was born. It documents my spiritual journey out of the darkness and into the Light. After nine months of publicly sharing my journey, and consciously releasing my attachment to the ego, I experienced a powerful spiritual awakening. I went from living in fear, doubt, worry, and stress to inner peace. My greatest passion has become assisting others on their own journey to finding peace within.
