3 Tips for Navigating the Maze of Life with Ease
Sometimes it feels like we’re at a crossroads, and have no idea which way to turn in order to get out of the situation we’re in or to move on to the next best opportunity for our growth. These moments arise in all areas of life: family, spiritual, relationships, career, and health. They can be frustrating, stressful, and extremely confusing.
I have faced these moments more times than I can count throughout my life. One example was when I was trying to determine which path, and which teachers, would support me with the spiritual growth I need at a particular stage in my journey. As I continued to grow spiritually, I noticed that I was outgrowing certain paths or teachers that I naively thought were leading me to the “end” of the journey (awakening). This push toward continuous growth and humility was a good thing, but it also left me in a quandary. I really didn’t want to make a choice that would set me back spiritually. I also felt deflated because I thought I was further along than I actually was.
We have all experienced moments of frustration and confusion about what step to take next at some point in our lives. Sometimes we suck it up and say “C’est la vie” (such is life), and then go on to make the choice that feels right at the time. Other times, we sit in a state of confusion for a longer period of time, which can leave us stagnant for longer that we would desire. But, is there a way can we feel completely at ease when these moments of confusion arise? Is there a way we can know for sure that we are taking the next step that will leap us forward on the path of our destiny? Is there a way we can know which of the options before us is not a dead-end?
After much trial and error throughout my life, and many wrong choices, I have developed these “3 Tips for Navigating the Maze of Life with Ease” and work to practice applying them every time I have an important decision to make. I pray you find them useful on your own journey.
3 Tips for Navigating the Maze of Life with Ease
1. Phone-a-Friend
Imagine the world as a maze. And imagine having “friends” that have an aerial view from above. They can see every choice you could possibly make, which ones lead to dead ends, and which ones are shortcuts to the path of your destiny. If you truly knew this was so, what would you do every time you had a decision to make? Would you forget they were there, and just go ahead and make the decisions on your own “hoping” that you got it right? Or, would you call them to ask which choice will lead you closer to where you are supposed to be?
Well, you do have “friends” that have an aerial view, and you can call on them. These friends come in the forms that most resonate with us. To some it may be the Holy Spirit, to others it may be ancestors, to others it may be angels, to others it may be a particular prophet, and the list goes on. They are there, in Spirit, waiting for us to call on them.
Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. Imagine you can see the entire maze (or, world) from above. You are whispering to the ones going through it, but not all of them are listening. You don’t want to scare them by shouting because they aren’t all fully aware that help is available in each moment, and at every turn. You respond to those who ask for assistance. You watch as the others go the long way, turning around at some points, and even staying in the same place for longer than you know they needed to. You wait patiently, and peacefully, for those who are lost to come to a point when they must ask for help, and you will be freely available to them just as you were to those who were ready sooner. All the while, you are at ease, knowing the day will come when they all return Home. This leads to the next step.
2. Be Still and Listen
The first step may have seemed obvious, but I would contend it is not the way that first comes to mind to the majority of people in this world when the time comes to make a decision. The key to this process working is allowing oneself the time to be still and listen for guidance. The guidance does not always come in the moment of inquiry. Sometimes there are individuals sent your way that may not seem like they are of particular importance to you, but the message they will share will be exactly what you need to hear in order to take your next step. The guidance may also come over a period of fasting, prayer, and meditation – a time in which you cleanse your mind and body of any toxicity that may be blocking the flow of Divine guidance. Or, the message may come in the form of a “bright idea” that pops into your mind a few days after posing the question in prayer. It is critical to allow time for listening before taking action of any kind.
3. Relentlessly Follow the Path Laid Before You
When you receive guidance from Spirit, and don’t follow it relentlessly, it is very possible to end up right back into a state of confusion. For example, the advice I received regarding my state of spiritual confusion was to follow a path that I didn’t particularly see myself following. I thought I knew myself better. So, instead of listening right away, I remained open and was taking in information from a variety of paths and teachers. A few months later, I was right back where I started – confused and frustrated. From that point forward, I began following the guidance I received, even when it brought me out of my comfort zone (which it does most times). As I result, I made the most significant spiritual progress I had experienced in this lifetime.
Since stagnation is not what we are striving for, it is always wise to trust, and act on, the advice of Spirit. It will never lead you astray. Although the path laid before you may seem lonely or challenging, you are never alone and will be guided every single step of the way (as long as you are listening ;-)).
I pray that this is a useful reminder for anyone who is currently at a crossroads. Have a beautiful day!
Keep shining!
