We Are More Than Flesh

July 9, 2012 0 Comments

On Saturday, my lesson in the A Course in Miracles workbook was “I am Spirit”.  I read it right after meditation, like I typically do, and this time I pushed myself to really practice the lesson for 5 minutes every hour as the workbook stated.  I was to repeat this statement as I practiced each hour:

Spirit am I, holy Son of God,

free of all limits, safe and healed and whole,

free to forgive, and free to save the world.

In addition to this affirmation, one of the paragraphs that really stood out from that lesson for me was this one:

We state again the truth about your Self, the holy Son of God Who rests in you; whose mind has been restored to sanity. You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. He is with you always, as you are with Him.

I was really feeling great and totally comforted by the Spirit within me.  Later in the day I was led to watch Reverend Michael Bernard Beckwith’s sermon from Wednesday, July 4th (click here and scroll to the 7/4/12 sermon to watch if you’re interested) and, although I didn’t know for sure why I was supposed to watch it, I knew that the Holy Spirit was leading me there for a reason.  I watched the whole sermon and thought it was awesome and inspiring, as always, but I didn’t have a major “aha” moment until just when I was about to cut it off and Rickie Byars Beckwith began to sing the song “morning chant” (click here for the YouTube version).  It’s a song she wrote from the perspective of a loved one that has passed on.  At first I listened to it and really felt the connection to my lesson for the day and the fact that I am (and we all are) Spirit, but then I listened a second time…this is when my soul opened up and the tears began to flow.  I heard my grandmother (who passed away 2 1/2 years ago, but I still think of her often and miss her dearly) singing this to me and I just let the tears flow and felt the love.  See below for the lyrics to the song and definitely take a listen to it here.  If you’ve ever lost a loved one, close your eyes and imagine them singing these lyrics to you (if you have lost a few loved ones, listen to it as many times as you need to for each one of them).  Such a strong sense of peace and joy will wash over you…SO powerful!

Morning Chant by Rickie Byars Beckwith

The spirit of God is all that I am now.

Don’t worry about me, now I am alright.

That body I had, let it fade into the light.

I am more than flesh, I am more than time.

We are more than flesh, we are more than time.

No I could not do, what I could not see.

Lift up my name, for what I tried to be.

Don’t worry about me, now I am alright.

That worry you have, let it fade into the light.

The spirit of God is all that I am now.

The spirit of God is all that we are now.

If I could not do what I could not see,

lift up my name for what I tried to be.

And don’t you worry ’bout me, now I am alright.

That body I had let it fade into the light.

The spirit of God is all that I am now.

I am so grateful for the Spirit and this beautiful and timely message!  We are SO much more than flesh!  God is SO good!  Keep Shining!

P.S.  I love you, Grandma!  You were (and are) always the light! Thank you for helping me see mine 😉

About the Author:

I used to live life shackled by fear, doubt, and worry. I put on a happy face while navigating my day-to-day duties, but I was emotionally drained, stressed, and unhappy. When I hit rock bottom, and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I was determined to live life differently. I knew there had to be another way. Out of that determination, and guidance from Spirit, the "Living in the Light" blog was born. It documents my spiritual journey out of the darkness and into the Light. After nine months of publicly sharing my journey, and consciously releasing my attachment to the ego, I experienced a powerful spiritual awakening. I went from living in fear, doubt, worry, and stress to complete inner peace. My greatest passion has become assisting others on their own journey to inner peace. My spiritual memoir, From Stress to Peace: An Intimate Journal on the Journey from Living in Darkness to Living in the Light, is available now on Amazon and BN.com. Click the tabs at the top of the page to learn more about the From Stress to Peace 21-Day Challenge, Living in the Light Retreats, 1:1 sessions, and the Living in the Light Community - all of which are designed to support your journey to inner peace. I appreciate you taking the time to visit the blog and look forward to supporting you in any way I can!
