The One Thing in the World that Offers Everything You Want
While we are momentarily walking the Earth, there is one thing that offers everything we want. In the instant that it is offered and received, complete peace is the outcome. What is this one thing that is so powerful that it can bring the Peace of God in an instant? Forgiveness.
I remember when I first read the passage below from A Course in Miracles which discusses this idea. Although I was becoming more and more committed to my daily spiritual practice at the time, I still had some resistance to the notion that forgiveness is the answer to all of my challenges. I was attached to my perspectives about certain people and situations that I found frustrating in my life, and was set on charting my own course to dealing with them. Forgiveness wasn’t exactly at the top of the list. But I read this passage, and something shifted in me. Something in me knew it was the truth.
“What could you want forgiveness cannot give? Do you want peace? Forgiveness offers it. Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep, abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset? All this forgiveness offers you and more. It sparkles on your eyes as you awake, and gives you joy with which to meet the day…Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world.” ~A Course in Miracles, Lesson 122
The resistance in me began to fade as I allowed myself to open up to truly walking in forgiveness. Then, sure enough…everything I had ever wanted throughout this entire lifetime was mine. For so long I struggled with stress, insecurity, resentment, fear, doubt, worry, and more. Through consistent practice of forgiveness on everything that came up in a given day that caused me upset, the inner pain was released. Could it really be that simple? Yes. It is that simple.
When we become willing to release our perspectives, and allow them to be replaced by the Spirit’s, the answer to every challenge becomes forgiveness. Why is this? Let me give you an example. Say, someone says something about you publicly that offends you. Your response in the past may have been to be angry, annoyed, frustrated, bitter, etc. You may have even told others about how “crazy” they are, only fueling the fire within yourself. Alternatively, when we are grounded in our Identity in Christ then our natural response to any “attack” is to remember the Christ that dwells within the other person. While they may not be in touch with their Identity in that moment, you can remember the Truth and move forward in peace, knowing that they will one day know what you know (whether in this lifetime or beyond). You develop great compassion for those who have not yet realized the Truth about themselves.
I struggled with this idea for a long time. I was stubborn and wanted to hold on to some of my old views about certain types of people, organizations, places, etc. I allowed so much internal frustration to build up in me that it caused disease, depression, anxiety, and more. To be honest, even after I had made what is considered to be much “progress” spiritually in the eyes of others, I was not sure if the day would arrive when I would truly be at peace, regardless of what came my way. I believed in the benefits of forgiveness, but I had not yet realized them. And then, one day, it happened. A “peace that surpasses all understanding” swept over me like a warm blanket on a cold day, and hasn’t let me go since. I want this for everyone, and know that it is possible – as soon as their Identity is accepted and forgiveness becomes “the Way, the Truth and the Life.”
My greatest passion is helping others achieve true inner peace. Not a peace that comes from achieving external things, but one that comes from the realization of the true Self, their oneness with God, and the acceptance of all brothers and sisters as one with them. It takes work to undo the beliefs of the world that shape our false identities and return to the Self, but it is possible. I look forward to continuing to support you at whatever stage you are in your own journey! The world can and will be transcended by all!
“The world can give no gifts of any value to a mind that has received what God has given as its own…Open your eyes today and look upon a happy world of safety and peace. Forgiveness is the means by which it comes to take the place of hell. In quietness it rises up to greet your open eyes, and fill your heart with deep tranquility as ancient truths, forever newly born, arise in your awareness. What you will remember can hardly be described. Yet your forgiveness offers it to you.” ~A Course in Miracles, Lesson 122
Keep shining!
