How We Can Heal the World
Today is the day we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Every year, around this time, I find myself reflecting even more on what I am doing to continue the legacy of those who came before whose Light shined so brightly in the world.
This morning, I was reading through some quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and when I arrived at this one, I paused.
“The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.” ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
I sat with it for a moment, and read over it a few times. I thought first about the healing of the mind being what I thought was most essential in creating a world in which Love is the answer to all things. What I heard, after pondering it for a little while, was that once the mind is healed (e.g. all negative thoughts have be transformed into loving ones), it takes action in order for Peace to reign supreme in the world.
Those individuals whose minds are healed must step up. It is not enough to be healed, and sit back quietly and hope that everything will turn out okay. Once our minds are healed, it is imperative that we shine our Light brightly so others can see what is possible through living life much differently than the mainstream. It takes complete non-conformity. It takes the blazing of a new trail to pave the way for those seeking their way out of the darkness.
“As soon as healing takes place, go out and heal somebody else.” ~Maya Angelou
Where the world judges, we must show Compassion. Where the world hates, we must extend Love. Where the world doubts, we must keep the Faith. Where the world is focused on the darkness, we must be the Light.
This is exactly what Living in the Light is all about. We are a community of individuals who are choosing to go against the grain. We are committed to choosing Love over fear, Peace over attack, and Forgiveness over resentment – no matter what.
We are tired of the old way of living in which we place blame on others for our lack of peace and the lack of peace of others. We take full responsibility for our peace-of-mind. We make it our business to be a part of the rapidly-growing tribe of individuals who are creating a New World – a world in which we always remember our oneness in God.
“I am not a victim of the world I see.” ~A Course in Miracles
So, today, I give thanks for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for all that he did to bring Light to a world that seems to be fascinated by the darkness. May we continue to carry the torch, until every dark corner of the world is transformed into the Light.
Keep shining!
